The artist
Hi! Iβm Monica, the lady behind MDH Studio. I was born and raised in Western Maine and now live in the Lakes Region with my husband and our 9 year old puppy. As a true introvert, Iβve always found self expression through tangible art as the best way for me to find balance in both my internal and external worlds.
I took one Intro to Metalsmithing class in 2014. This single semester course laid out the groundwork that Iβve built on since. Iβve dabbled in and out of pottery since I was young but truly honed my skills after working as a production potter for the last two years. I love working with each medium on their own, as well as blending the two to create truly unique pieces.
The studio
MDH Studio was established in 2019 under the original name Bad Fox Collections. When I first launched my business I was only making small batch one-of-a-kind jewelry. During 2021 my husband and I married and toward the end of the year I had faded out of the studio as our focus shifted entirely to buying our first home. After months of searching and countless offers, we finally found my dream βtreehouseβ on the self-proclaimed Hagen Hill in 2022.
I finally rebuilt my studio at the end of 2023, again beginning with small batch jewelry, but knowing I wanted to add handcrafted ceramics into the mix. A rebrand came at the beginning of 2024 when the studio officially expanded to include both mediums.
The wares
As a silversmith, I craft handmade jewelry using traditional tools, silver, and stones. As a ceramicist, I focus mostly on wheel thrown functional wares but I love to stretch my creative wings with large vessels made both on the wheel and hand built.
I find inspiration from natural elements, my native environment, and my desire for self expression. Each piece is made from start to finish by hand. Created with heart and intent, there is evidence of the process, hard work, and love in each and every piece. Itβs these small marks from each artist that make handmade goods soulful and special, just like its owner.
